Our Story

The year is 2003. Businesses are caught in a web of outdated processes — manually tracking employee absences and vacation days with handwritten notes and Excel sheets. It’s a necessary task, driven by the need to comply with labor laws, but it’s tedious, error-prone, and inefficient. Absence management is a drain on time and resources, and there had to be a better way.

That’s when the idea of Timebutler came along. Our goal was simple: make absence planning simpler, more organized, and accessible to every business, big or small. 

Launched under the domain urlaub-verwalten.de in 2003, Timebutler started as a tool to help businesses track vacation days. But the vision didn’t stop there. Over time, we expanded, evolving from a basic vacation tracker to a full-fledged absence management platform. By 2015, we rebranded to Timebutler and added time tracking to meet the growing needs of our rapidly expanding customer base.

In 2024, saas.group, a home for bootstrapped businesses, acquired Timebutler. With their support, we’ve continued to grow while staying true to our founding principles: compliance, simplicity, reliability, and innovation. 

Today, Timebutler helps thousands of businesses simplify absence planning, vacation management, and time tracking — just as we set out to do in 2003. The need for efficient and simple time management hasn’t changed, so we continue building tools to help our customers manage employee time accurately and comply with labor laws.
