Industrial minutes versus hours format in the Excel download

In the time tracking settings, you define the display format in which working time is shown:

  • In industrial minutes format, for example “5.75 h”
  • In h m format, for example “5 h 45 m”

You download time entries and working time accounts as an Excel file with a single click. Regardless of your setting, the Excel file always shows the times in industrial minutes format (5.75 h).

The reason: Excel cannot calculate correctly with the 5 h 45 m format, unlike the industrial minutes format. Excel cannot compute 6 h 49 m + 7 h 37 m — and it is harder for people too — whereas the sum is straightforward in industrial minutes format. Because you typically use the Excel download for further processing and calculation of working times, the Excel file always shows the times in industrial minutes format.
