Time tracking settings

Time tracking offers many settings so you can tailor it optimally to your company’s needs.

Edit settings

Open the time tracking settings by logging in to Timebutler as an admin, then clicking Settings > More… at the bottom left, then Time tracking on the right.

Selected settings

Allow entry via the entry form

You can specify that employees may record working time only via the virtual time clock or the time recording terminal and may not enter it directly via the entry form. To do this, clear the checkmarks for Managers and/or Employees in the Enter entries option.

Activate the time clock via the Time clock option.

You can specify that certain employees may only start the time clock at the time recording terminal (and, if desired, only stop it there as well).

Require approval for changes to time entries

With the Edit own entries and Delete own entries settings, you specify whether users may change or delete their own time entries themselves, or whether a change/cancellation request first goes to the manager, who must approve the change beforehand.

With the next option, Edit others' entries, you also specify whether the manager or an admin grants the approval.

If you set that only admins approve the change requests, Timebutler sends the notification email about a new request as follows:

  • If the employee’s manager has an admin user account, Timebutler sends the email only to that manager’s admin user account.
  • If the employee’s manager does not have an admin user account (but a manager user account), Timebutler sends the email to all admins. Any admin can approve.

Time restrictions

Several options let you restrict the entry of working time to a time window. Check the options Entry in the future, Entry in the past, Earliest start time, and Working time lock for previous months.
