Time tracking settings

Time tracking offers extensive settings so you can tailor it optimally to your company’s needs.

Edit settings

Open the time tracking settings by signing in to Timebutler as an admin, then clicking “Settings > More..” at the bottom left, then “Time tracking” on the right.

Selected settings

Allow entry via the input form

You can configure that employees may record working times only via the virtual time clock or the time tracking terminal and may not enter them directly via the input form. To do so, in the “Enter entries” option, clear the checkmarks for “Supervisor” and/or “Employee”.

Activate the time clock via the “Time clock” option.

You can specify that certain employees may [start the time clock only at the time tracking terminal(/time-tracking/time-clock-terminal/allow-only-the-time-tracking-terminal/) (and, if desired, also stop it only there).

Require approval for changes to time entries

Using the “Edit own entries” and “Delete own entries” settings, you can configure whether employee users may change or delete time entries themselves, or whether a change/cancellation request first goes to the supervisor and the supervisor must approve the change.

With the next option “Edit others’ entries”, you can also set whether the supervisor or an admin approves.

If you set that only admins approve change requests, Timebutler sends the email with the notification about a new request as follows:

  • if the employee’s supervisor has an admin user account, the email goes only to that admin
  • if the employee’s supervisor does not have an admin user account (but a supervisor user account), the email goes to all admins. Any admin can approve.

Time restrictions

There are various options you can use to restrict the entry of working times in time. Review the options “Entry in the future”, “Entry in the past”, “Earliest start time” and “Working times lock for previous months”.
