Change user type

You can change the user type of an existing user account. Proceed as follows:

Sign in to Timebutler as an admin and click Employees at the top left, then under the small Employees click Overview. For the desired user account, click the green button with the pencil icon (Edit). At the top, change the selection under User type to the desired user type. Then click the blue Save button at the bottom to save the change.

Error message: Employees assigned

If you want to change a supervisor or admin to an employee user and the supervisor/admin still has employees assigned, you will receive an error message. You must first assign all employees of that supervisor/admin to [assign to another supervisor(/users-and-permissions/supervisors/assign-supervisors/). After that, you can change the user type to an employee user.

Change your own admin user account

An admin cannot change their own admin user account to a supervisor or employee user account. This ensures that there is always at least one user with admin rights. Instead, another admin user signs in and changes the user account as described above.

If the user is currently signed in to their Timebutler user account while the admin makes the change, the change takes effect only after the user’s next sign-out and sign-in.
