When you enter a [work time entry via the entry form(/time-tracking/enter-working-hours/enter-working-hours-entry-form/), you can enter the start time and the end time.
At the start of the workday, you sometimes want to create a work time entry and first enter only the start time and add the end time later. However, it is not possible to enter a work time entry without entering the end time. There are several reasons for this:
If it were possible to enter work time entries without an end time, these entries would have no working time duration. In the list of work time entries, you would see entries that show no working time. The view would become cluttered, and it would be unclear why some work time entries are not included in the working time account.
Based on experience, many work time entries would be forgotten, and the end time would not be added in the afternoon either. Over time, dozens or hundreds of work time entries without an end time and without a duration would accumulate, and employees would no longer know the correct end time afterwards.
Instead, you have the following alternatives:
Tracking via the time clock
Allow [work time tracking with the time clock(/time-tracking/enter-working-hours/enter-working-hours-time-clock/). Employees can then conveniently start the time clock with a mouse click at the start of the workday and stop it in the afternoon.
Tracking via the time tracking terminal
Provide your employees with the [time tracking terminal on a tablet(/time-tracking/time-clock-terminal/time-tracking-terminal-on-a-tablet/), so employees can conveniently clock in when they arrive at the company.
Enter an estimated end time
Employees can enter a work time entry in the morning with a start time and an approximate end time. At the end of the workday, they can edit the work time entry and correct the end time.
Allow entering the duration instead of times
An admin can set in the [time tracking settings(/time-tracking/settings/time-tracking-settings/) under the “Input method” option whether employees enter the start and end time when creating a work time entry or whether they can enter only the duration. If you do not need the times, you can allow entering only the duration.
